From Study after Velazquez’s Portrait of Pope Innocent X, Francis Bacon I learnt:
From Bacon's work I learnt: 1. how to transform emotion, consciousness in a figurative way 2. and how to face portrait painting, 3. how to transform, decompose (the body of the figure, the dynamics of the figure, the spatial composition); 4. how to decompose and generalise the space of the picture through the abstract painting technique, and to re-expound it 5. how to replace the traditional masking method in painting with the abstract painting technique 6. How to use abstract painting techniques to replace the traditional overpainting method 6. How to build up the space of the picture through planarisation and generalisation, in order to match with the characters to create a sense of the sublime 7. How to use the accuracy and certainty of the line strokes, the sense of power of the brush strokes in combination with the planar brush strokes (focusing on the form of the brush strokes, the thickness of the brush strokes, as well as the strength of the accurate) and the colours of the modeling to go with it.
